Description of the building
Building K of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Karlín is the seat of the Mathematics Department. The building also houses a faculty library branch and the faculty’s Reprographic Centre.
Accessibility and transportation
Public transportation
Immediately next to the building, there is the tram stop Křižíkova with regular tram lines 24, 8, 3, and 14 and a metro station, which is not barrier-free.
Parking
There are no reserved parking spaces available.
Entrance
The surface of the access road is made of flat mosaic tiles. The double-panel entrance door (main panel width 66 cm, side panel width 72 cm) opens mechanically inwards. The doorbell (height 146 cm) is located on the right side of the door.
From the entrance, a staircase (7 steps up) with a sloping stair platform leads to the elevated ground floor (load capacity 225 kg, traffic area width 84 cm, depth 100 cm). The platform without a doorbell is not self-service. Staff assistance is required. The manoeuvring spaces on the lower and upper stair landings are sufficient.
Interior
On the elevated ground floor, above the entrance staircase, there is a reception area (desk height 122 cm). All floors of the building, except the street level, are connected by a lift.
The classrooms, offices, and lecture rooms are usually accessible directly from the main corridors of the floor. An exception is lecture room K1 on the 3rd above-ground floor with access to the upper section via 4 steps up and a gym on the lowered ground floor with access via 10 steps down.
The elevation (2 steps up) in the library on the 2nd above-ground floor is resolved by a ramp (gradient 8%, width 235 cm, length 467 cm). Only a metal staircase leads to the library gallery. The library (service counter height 115 cm) is equipped with a narrowed security gate (width 77 cm) at the front door. There is an inappropriately high doorbell (height 156 cm).
The other passages and doors to the rooms, with the exception of the double doors (width 2x 70 cm) from the staircase corridor to the wings on the 1st above-ground floor (elevated ground floor), have a minimum width of 80 cm. Some doors are fitted with thresholds (height 2-3 cm).
The respirium in the basement of the building is only accessible to a limited extent. The section with the kitchen is at the level of the main corridor with a lift, but the club room is located under the staircase (10 steps down).
Lift
A lift (automatically opening door width 80 cm, cabin width 100 cm, depth 125 cm) connects the basement, the elevated ground floor, and another four above-ground floors. The manoeuvring space in front of the lift is sufficient. The cabin is equipped with a handle (height 94 cm) and a mirror on the front wall. The pull-down seat is within reach of the control panel. The controls at the entrances have a maximum height of 110 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cabin is 133 cm.
Sanitary facilities
There are a total of three modified toilets in the building.
Two modified toilets with the same parameters are located on the 1st and 3rd above-ground floors in the corridor near the lifts. The partially accessible stalls (door width 80 cm, stall width 192 cm, depth 158 cm) with a hallway (door width 80 cm, hallway width 109 cm, depth 92 cm) are separate. The single-panel toilet doors open mechanically outwards. The stalls have a rotated layout of 90° (the toilet is anchored on the right side wall). Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 96 cm). The toilets are always equipped with two pull-down handles, which are insufficiently anchored on the wall.
The third partially accessible toilet (door width 80 cm, stall width 145 cm, depth 179 cm) on the 5th above-ground floor is also separate. The single-panel toilet door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 87 cm). There are no handles next to the toilet.
