Description of the building
Building M of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics is a part of the Ke Karlovu complex. The Dean’s Office and some physics departments are located in the building.
Accessibility and transportation
Public transportation
The nearest public transportation stop is bus no. 148 “Dětská nemocnice Karlov”. The barrier-free metro station I. P. Pavlova may also be used. For more information, see www.dpp.cz.
Description of the route from the lift at the I. P. Pavlova metro station: From the lift leading to Legerova Street 50, turn right to I. P. Pavlova Square where you will cross Legerova Street and then Sokolská Street. Follow Sokolská Street to the left and keep going straight until the intersection with Wenzigova Street where you turn right, and at the end, turn left into Ke Karlovu Street (you can also take a quieter route via Na Bojišti and Ke Karlovu Streets, but there are more crossings). On the right, you will first pass the building of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Ke Karlovu 5, and then there is the Dean’s Office of the faculty, Ke Karlovu 3.
The main entrance is not barrier-free, so you should continue to the corner of the building where you will turn right into the metal gate and then right into the courtyard. You will see the door to the building opposite you. Enter through it and the lift is on the right through the corridor.
Parking
Two reserved parking spaces without a ramp to the pavement are available at the intersection of Ke Karlovu and Albertov Streets.
Entrance
The surface of the access pavement is made of flat mosaic tiles. The main entrance to the building is not barrier-free (4 steps up). The double door (main panel width 85 cm, side panel width 87 cm) opens mechanically inwards. There is no doorbell at the entrance. From the vestibule (width 189 cm, depth 102 cm), another double door leads to the interior (width 2x 77 cm).
From the entrance hall, where the reception area is located (desk height 80 cm), a staircase (14 steps up) leads to the building.
A side entrance allowing better access is available from Božena Němcová Street. The double-panel entrance gate (width min. 150 cm) is equipped with a doorbell (height 143 cm). The adjoining road leading to the courtyard has a rougher paved surface and a longitudinal slope (up to 9%).
The entrance from the courtyard to the building consists of a double door (main panel width 89 cm, side panel width 35 cm). It opens mechanically outwards. The doorbell (height 142 cm) is located on the right side of the door.
Interior
The level of the courtyard, the elevated ground floor, and the 2nd above-ground floor of the building are connected by a lift, which always has a station in the main corridors connecting the entire floor (the building has a U-shaped floor plan). On the 3rd above-ground floor, the lift serves only the east wing adjacent to Ke Karlovu Street. In the north part, there is a tiered lecture room M1 (door width 2x 60 cm), to which a staircase (11 steps up) leads from the main corridor with a lift. The west wing of the 3rd above-ground floor, where, among other things, the only modified toilet in the building is located, is accessible only by a staircase from the 2nd above-ground floor or through the non-barrier-free lecture room M1.
Lecture room M2 is tiered as well, also on the 3rd above-ground floor. The entrance (door width 2x 60 cm) is directly from the main corridor. Reserved space is located in the lower section near the door.
Most of the other rooms, including the library on the 2nd above-ground floor, are equipped with double doors (width 2x 60 cm) with low thresholds (height max. 3 cm) and a high doorbell (height 145-158 cm). A narrowed passage is created by a security gate (width 77 cm) at the entrance to the library.
There is limited manoeuvring space in the vestibules of some offices, to which double doors also lead from the main corridors (width 2x 60 cm). The entrances to the individual offices usually have single-panel doors (width 80 cm).
Lift
A lift (door opening mechanically outwards, door width 2x 55 cm, cabin width 111 cm, depth 135 cm) connects the courtyard to the 3rd above-ground floor. The manoeuvring space in front of the lift is sufficient. The cabin is equipped with a handle (height 103 cm) and a pull-down seat within reach of the controls. There is no mirror in the lift. The controls at the entrances have a maximum height of 101 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cabin is 115 cm.
Sanitary facilities
The accessible toilet (door width 80 cm, stall width 167 cm, depth 211 cm) is separate, but it is located in an inaccessible part of the building on the 3rd above-ground floor, to which only a staircase leads. The toilet is locked. The key is available at the reception. The single-panel toilet door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the cabin is on the left. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 93 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down and one fixed handle.
