Description of the facility

The historic building complex with teaching areas between located between the Celetná street and the Ovocný trh square is made up of several historic buildings connected into one functional unit. In addition to the Rectorate’s teaching areas (the Green and Blue lecture halls), it also houses selected departments of the Faculty of Arts. The basement also houses the accessible student club Studentský klub Celetná. Due to its ruggedness, the building presents a rather complicated terrain. Using existing measures, most (but not all) of the complex has been made accessible. Unlike the administrative areas, most of the areas intended for teaching are accessible. The building has several accessible restrooms. There is an elevator available to move from floor to floor.

Accessibility and getting here

Public transport

The nearby metro station Můstek (lines A and B), seated deep below ground, is accessible – the entrance is located in the lower part of Wenceslas Square. Wheelchair access is also available when traveling by tram (5, 8, 24, 26) or bus to Náměstí Republiky (the Náměstí Republiky metro station does not have an elevator). For more information see www.dpp.cz

Parking

Disabled persons can park in one of the courtyards of the Karolinum complex provided the building administration has been notified in advance. Entrance is possible through the gate at Ovocný trh 5. Once there, you can ring the bell; the receptionist has live camera feed at their disposal as well. To get to Celetná 20, you need to go through to the adjacent courtyard, where wheelchair access to the main entrance area is available.

Entrance

The main accessible entrance is located at Celetná 20. The heavy gate can be opened by passers-by (the entrance is very busy), or you can use the bell to summon the staff of the adjacent reception. You can also enter from the direction of Ovocný trh 9. A bell is located at the door that will alert the receptionist of your presence. There is an elevator in the passage behind the door. The elevator operates from 6 am to 6 pm.
