Kampus Hybernská

Overview of accessibility

Description of the facility

The facility consists of six buildings, each with its own entrance. The premises are used for student and academic project presentations with the aim of introducing the general public to the activities of Charles University, especially those of the Faculty of Arts.

Entrance

The surface of the access pavement in the Hybernská street mostly consists of flat mosaic paving. The robust entrance doors without a bell lead to a passage, to the right of which there is a single step leading to the reception and to building A. The passage then leads to a courtyard surrounded by the remaining buildings - B, C, D, E and F. Most of the campus, teaching areas especially, is not accessible. However, the building is considered partially accessible, as some areas that function as galleries, the café with reading room and the actively used outdoor courtyard area are at least partially accessible.

Building interior

Building A

The building, currently undergoing reconstruction, mostly fulfills the role of a gallery. There are 2 wide stairs in front of the entrance. The double entrance doors lead to a stair hall where an elevator will be installed at the end of 2020 / beginning of 2021 and embedded in the stairwell.

For the time being, the exhibition space on the second floor is accessible from the ground floor only via a U-shaped staircase. The doors leading to the halls are double leaf with raised thresholds (at the height of 3-5 cm).

Building B

The building adjoins the east side of the courtyard. It houses smaller lecture halls and offices. The entrance door is double leaf (width: 2x 56 cm), with 1 step leading to it (height: 4 cm). There is a staircase (9 and 15 steps) right behind the entrance that leads to the second floor, which houses two lecture halls and a recording studio. Another 4 steps separate the second floor and an area called the “Světnice,” behind which offices are located. There is no alternative wheelchair access to the lecture halls.

Building C

The building is positioned transversely in the middle of the courtyard, diving it into two parts (front and rear courtyard), the two parts connected by a wide passage.

The ground floor houses a café with two entrances. There is a straight run ramp without handrails leading to the entrance from the front yard. There is sufficient maneuvering space both above and below the ramp. Entrance is possible via double doors with a threshold (height: 3 cm) that open mechanically inwards. Entrance from the rear courtyard is possible via 1 step (height: 14 cm) and double doors (width: 2x 72 cm) with a threshold (height: 2 cm) that open mechanically outwards. The café has a children's play area and a large outdoor seating area in the back yard.

Building D

The five-story building at the southeast corner of the campus has two separate entrances. The first entrance (door width: 2x 65 cm) leads to the gallery on the ground floor. The exhibition halls are spacious, with doors and passages at least 80 cm wide. The “Library of Things” (door width: 90 cm) is accessible from the gallery.

The second entrance leads to the lecture area. The double doors, accessible via 1 step (height: 9 cm), open mechanically inwards. Opposite the entrance on the ground floor, you will find solely exhibition space (door width: 90 cm).

Other classrooms and halls are located throughout the second to fifth floor, accessible from the ground floor by a staircase only.

Building E

The building in the rear courtyard has two separate side-by-side entrances, both made up of metal garage doors. Behind one is a steep staircase leading to the exhibition space in the basement. In front of the second entrance there is a levelling ramp (slope: 16%, width: 95 cm, length: 44 cm), with a short ramp (slope: 13%, width: 120 cm, length: 120 cm) behind it descending to the ground floor, where a bar is located.

The second floor can be accessed only by a narrow metal staircase.

Building F

The building houses workshops. There are 2 stairs in front of the entrance made up of a single-leaf door (width: 79 cm) which opens mechanically inwards.

Elevator

There is no elevator in the facility as of yet. An elevator is expected to be installed in the central stair hall as part of the ongoing reconstruction of building A. However, the entrance to the building will remain non-accessible (only accessible via 2 steps, see Building interior, Building A).

Sanitation facilities

The sanitation facility in building C (located between building E and F) has an accessible stall. The double doors leading to the restroom (main wing width: 90 cm, secondary wing width: 50 cm) open mechanically outwards. A straight run ramp without handrails leads from the entrance to a spacious restroom. The accessible restroom stall (door width 87; stall width: 144-190 cm, depth: 190 cm) is co-ed. The unlabeled single-leaf door to the stall opens mechanically outwards. The toilet is located to the left when facing the door to the stall. There is sufficient wheelchair space next to the toilet (width: 95 cm). The toilet is equipped with one folding and one fixed handle.

Parking

There is one accessible parallel parking space in front of the building.
