Overview of accessibility

Description of the building

The newly renovated building houses foreign language departments and a study room for foreign language students. In addition, CU Point (the Information, Counselling and Social Centre of Charles University) and the card issuing centre for student ID cards are located here.

Entrance

Celetná Street, where the entrance to the faculty building is located, has a surface of mosaic tiles, coarser in places, but without any significant incline.

The heavy single-panel entrance door (width 97 cm) with a robust wooden gate opens mechanically towards the outside. There is no doorbell at the entrance.

The vestibule is separated into two parts by a glass wall with a double door (width 2x 80 cm). The second part has a sloping floor (gradient 6%, length 460 cm). In this area, there is a reception area with double automatic doors, in front of which is a sloping stair (height 4 to 12 cm).

From the second part of the vestibule, another double door (width 2x 80 cm) leads to the main staircase corridor with a lift.

Interior

1st above-ground floor

CU Point and the card issuing centre are located on the lower level of the 1st above-ground floor. The entrance to the spacious hall consists of a double door with a narrower main panel (width 2x 75 cm). A short staircase is behind the door (4 steps down), which has a single ramp on the left side (gradient 13.5%, width 128 cm, length 455 cm) with a handrail on one side (height 93 cm). The manoeuvring area above and below the ramp is sufficient.

The service counter (height 108 cm) in the centre of the hall does not have a lowered section.

Behind the hall, there are offices for the Information, Counselling and Social Centre of Charles University that students can visit for consultation sessions. The offices are equipped with ordinary desks, and the doors are a minimum of 80 cm wide. When passing through the administrative facilities and the adjoining room for making student ID cards, you enter a hallway with a modified toilet stall. The corridor is adjacent to the CU Point hall on the right, and it is barrier-free only in this direction. From the opposite side, from the central staircase and lift, four stairs lead down to the corridor.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd above-ground floors are connected by a lift located on the main staircase corridor.

2nd above-ground floor

On the 2nd above-ground floor, sections of the central corridor are slanted (gradient 5% to 9%, length max. 3 m). Study rooms and classrooms have either single doors (width 80 cm) or double doors (width 2x 65 cm).

3rd above-ground floor

A part of the central corridor on the 3rd above-ground floor is elevated at the corner between the southern and eastern wings (3 steps up, raised floor, 3 steps down). The elevation is resolved on one side (3 steps up) by a side ramp (gradient 14%, width 134 cm, length 340 cm) with a double-sided handrail (height 92 cm). The manoeuvring area above and below the ramp is sufficient. At the other end (3 steps down), the short staircase is resolved by a sloping stair platform (load capacity 250 kg; traffic area width 80 cm, depth 90 cm). The manoeuvring areas on the lower and upper stair landings are sufficient. To call the operator, a telephone number to the reception desk is displayed on the platform control panel.

The large classroom C1 (door width 2x 90 cm) on the 3rd above-ground floor is immediately next to the lift. Other study rooms and classrooms have either single doors (width 80 cm) or double doors (width 2x 60 cm). The doors have elevated thresholds (height 3 cm to 4 cm).

4th above-ground floor

The 4th above-ground floor with a library, study room, and modified toilet is no longer connected to the other floors by a lift but only by a sloping stair platform (load capacity 250 kg; traffic area width 80 cm, depth 90 cm), which is located on the staircase in the eastern wing.

Lift

The lift (automatic door width 90 cm; cabin width 119 cm, depth 140 cm) connects the 1st underground floor to the 3rd above-ground floor. The manoeuvring area in front of the lift is sufficient. The cabin with a pull-down seat is also equipped with a handrail (height 93 cm) on the side wall and a mirror on the front wall. The controls at the entrance points are a maximum height of 102 cm; the maximum height of the controls inside the cabin is 108 cm.

Sanitary facilities

There are three modified toilets in the building.

The accessible toilet (door width 90 cm; stall width 186 cm, depth 184 cm) on the 1st above-ground floor is separate. The single door for the toilet is labelled and opens mechanically towards the outside. The stall has a rotated layout of 90° (the toilet is anchored on the right side wall). Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet bowl is sufficient (width 105 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle.

The accessible toilet (door width 90 cm; stall width 185 cm, depth 160 cm) in the eastern wing of the 2nd above-ground floor is also separate. The single door of the toilet is labelled and opens mechanically towards the outside. The stall is again rotated by 90° (the toilet is anchored on the right side wall). Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 85 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle.

The partially accessible toilet (door width 90 cm; stall width 177 cm, depth 225 cm) on the 4th above-ground floor is also separate. The single door of the toilet is labelled and opens mechanically towards the outside. Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 102 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle. However, the pull-down handle cannot be stored in a vertical position due to the sloping rear wall.

Parking

The closest parking to the building is four reserved spaces on Old Town Square.
