The main building of the Faculty of Education houses the dean’s office, the student affairs office, the vice-dean for studies, the office of foreign and external relations, the library, and most of the departments.
The surface of the access pavement from Lazarská Street, where there is a tram stop, is made up of level mosaic tiles that transitions to an asphalt surface at the wide entrance gate. The pavement rises at the entrance (gradient 6%, length approx. 250 cm), paved with mosaic tiles. The area in front of the entrance door is level. The double entrance door (main panel 105 cm wide, secondary panel 108 cm wide) opens mechanically towards the inside. The doorbell (height 98 cm) is located on the right side of the entrance.
From the entrance, a staircase (12 steps up) leads to the entrance hall with a reception area (desk height 115 cm) on the elevated ground floor (1st above-ground floor). It is accessed by a sloping stair platform (load capacity 300 kg; traffic area width 80 cm, depth 90 cm). In the lower level, only entry from the side is possible. The manoeuvring areas on the upper stair landing are sufficient. The platform can only be used with the assistance of staff.
All floors of the building are connected by a lift. The rooms on the 2nd to 5th above-ground floors are accessible from the central corridors, which are connected to the lift. On the 1st above-ground floor, the southern part of the eastern wing with classroom R 016, which is accessible via the exterior courtyard (6 steps), is not connected to the lift. The other spaces are again accessible from the central corridor of the floor. The entrance to the hall (door width 2x 60 cm) from the stair landing (8 steps down) is connected to the entrance hall (1st above-ground floor) by a sloping stair platform (load capacity 300 kg; traffic area width 75 cm, depth 81 cm). The landing may be reached only from the side entrance/exit. The manoeuvring space on the upper platform is sufficient.
The sloping stair platform (load capacity 300 kg; traffic area width 75 cm, depth 81 cm) also provides access to the Great Hall in the basement, to which a staircase (6 steps down) leads from the central corridor with the lift. The manoeuvring areas on the lower and upper stair landings are sufficient.
Classrooms 448, 450, 452, 454, and 456 on the 5th above-ground floor have access from the central corridor via one step (height 8 cm, depth 60 cm). The single door (width 80 cm) with a threshold (height 2 cm) opens mechanically towards the inside.
The other doors of classrooms, study rooms, and other rooms on all floors are single-panel (width min. 80 cm) or double-panel (main panel width min. 60 cm, secondary panel width min. 62 cm) without stairs, but often with a threshold (height 2 cm to 3 cm). An exception is the entrance to the student affairs office on the 2nd above-ground floor. There is a double door here without a threshold, which opens automatically to the sides.
Classroom R 112 on the 2nd floor has non-barrier-free access (4 stairs up).
The lift (automatic door width 80 cm; cage width 112 cm, depth 139 cm) connects the 1st underground floor to the 5th above-ground floor. The manoeuvring area in front of the lift is sufficient. The cage with a pull-down seat is also equipped with a handrail and a mirror on the front wall. The controls at the entrance points are a maximum height of 105 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cage is 127 cm.
Sanitary facilities
There are a total of three modified toilets in the building, but only the stall on the 1st above-ground floor can be used. A separate accessible toilet (door width 90 cm; stall width 233 cm, depth 265 cm) with a spacious vestibule has an entrance directly from the central corridor. The single door to the toilet is labelled and opens mechanically towards the outside. The stall is locked with a Eurokey, which is available at the reception desk on the same floor. Access to the toilet, anchored on the left-side wall, is on the left when looking from the entrance into the stall. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 110 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle.
Another modified toilet in the basement was used as storage for cleaning supplies at the time the map was made (August 2019). The third labelled stall is located on the 5th above-ground floor, but has insufficient parameters, an unsuitable layout, and the door opens improperly towards the inside.
Two reserved parking spaces are located at the intersection of Magdaleny Rettigové and Lazarská streets. The adjacent crossing point has lowered curbs on both sides.
Public transportation
The barrier-free lift lobby of the Národní třída B metro station opens directly into M. D. Rettigové Street. The barrier-free Lazarská tram stop (lines 3, 5, 6, 9, 14, and 24) is located only 100 m from the building. For more information, see www.dpp.cz.
