Overview of accessibility

Description of the building

The Campus of Charles University in Hradec Králové is located immediately adjacent to the University Hospital. The Department of Medical Biology and Genetics, the Department of Medical Biochemistry of the Faculty of Medicine, the Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, and the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of the Faculty of Pharmacy are located in a five-storey building with lower side wings.

Accessibility and transportation

Public transportation

The Heyrovského trolleybus and bus stop is 450 metres from the building. All public trolleybuses and buses in Hradec Králové have lowered floors. For more information, see http://www.dpmhk.cz/.

Parking

There are three reserved parking spaces in the underground garages, which are accessible by a lift.

Entrance

The surface of the access pavement is asphalt. The area in front of the main entrance is paved with flat, large-format tiling.

The double entrance door automatically opens to the sides. The width of the passage is sufficient. The doorbell (height 146 cm) is located on the left side of the door. In the entrance hall, there is a reception area (desk height 120 cm), a pair of central lifts, and two modified toilets.

Interior

In the school building at the level of the 1st above-ground floor (entrance), there is an entrance to lecture room no. A101 (door width 2x 78 cm) with a tiered layout. The reserved seats are in the first lower row at the entrance to the lecture hall. The department is elevated (2 steps up).

The second tiered lecture room no. A105 (door width 2x 78 cm) is accessible from the 1st above-ground floor by a staircase (10 steps up) with a sloping stair platform (load capacity 250 kg, traffic area width 82 cm, depth 100 cm). The manoeuvring spaces on the lower and upper stair landings are sufficient. The reserved seats are in the last upper row at the entrance to the lecture room. The aisle with landings on the right side of the lecture room has a slope of 12.5%.

Other classrooms and offices are located on all other floors of the building, with the exception of the 1st underground floor where the technical rooms and garages are located.

The passages from the central space to the side wings have a double door on all floors (main panel width 77 cm, side panel width 82 cm). The manoeuvring space in the interior of the whole building is sufficient. Other doors and passages have a minimum width of 80 cm.

Lift

A pair of lifts (automatically opening door width 89 cm, cabin width 110 cm, depth 215 cm) is located next to the central staircase. The manoeuvring space in front of the lifts is sufficient. The cabins with pull-down seats are equipped with a handle (height 88 cm) and a mirror on the front wall. The controls at the entrances have a maximum height of 110 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cabin is 116 cm.

Sanitary facilities

There are a total of four modified toilets with the same parameters in the building. The two on the 1st above-ground floor have opposite layouts, separately for the men’s toilet and the women’s toilet. The other two stalls are merged and are located at the same location on the 2nd and 3rd above-ground floors.

All accessible stalls (door width 90 cm, stall width 213 cm, depth 189 cm) have direct access from the central corridor without a hallway. The single-panel toilet door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is always on the left, with the exception of the men’s toilet stall on the 1st above-ground floor where access is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 143-146 cm). The toilets are always equipped with two pull-down handles.
