Overview of accessibility

Description of the building

The 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University is located in the Vinohrady medical complex. In addition to teaching premises, the six-storey building houses the dean’s office of the faculty.

Entrance

The surface of the access pavement from Ruská Street is asphalt. The pavement, which is interrupted at the entrances to the parking areas in front of the entrance to the building, has sloped curbs with a significant gradient (up to 28%). Short metal ramps (gradient 20%, length 30 cm) lead to the area in front of the entrance from the parking areas.

The short staircase in front of the entrance (3 steps up) is equipped on the left side with a single ramp (gradient 10.5%, width 170 cm, length 400 cm) without a handrail. The manoeuvring area on the lower and upper landings is sufficient.

The double entrance door opens automatically to the sides. The width of the passageway is sufficient. The doorbell (height 142 cm) is located to the left of the entrance. It is more difficult to access. There is a reception area in the spacious entrance hall (door width 80 cm).

Interior

From the entrance hall on the 1st above-ground floor, the entrances lead to three tiered auditoriums, Jonáš, Burian, and Syllab, which are located in the rear wing. The reserved spaces in the auditoriums are always in the lower section near the door.

On the same floor in the west wing, there is a library, and opposite it, a modified toilet with an inappropriate layout. Part of the spacious entrance hall is a buffet (counter height 100 cm) which opens up to the space.

The ground floor and all other floors are connected by a lift in the eastern wing. The second lift in the western wing connects only the 1st to 5th above-ground floors.

With the exception of the ground floor, the floors have a U-shaped floor plan with a central corridor, from which the entrances to classrooms and other rooms lead. The manoeuvring area in the interior is sufficient. The doors and other passageways have a minimum width of 80 cm with the exception of room 302 (3rd above-ground floor) and room 523 (5th above-ground floor), which have double doors with a narrowed main wing (width 2x 70 cm).

Lift

The lift in the eastern wing (automatic door width 90 cm; cabin width 107 cm, depth 200 cm) connects the 1st to 6th above-ground floors. The manoeuvring area in front of the lift is sufficient. The cabin is equipped with a pull-down seat, a mirror (bottom edge height 110 cm), and a handrail (height 110 cm) on the front wall. The controls at the entrance points have a maximum height of 105 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cage is 118 cm.

The lift in the west wing (automatic door 120 cm wide; cabin 164 cm wide, 156 cm deep) connects only the 1st to 5th above-ground floors. The manoeuvring area in front of the lift is sufficient. The cabin is equipped with a pull-down seat, a mirror (bottom edge height 117 cm), and a handrail (height 112 cm) on the front wall. The controls at the entrance points have a maximum height of 140 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cage is 131 cm.

Sanitary facilities

There are two modified toilets in the building, but neither of them has an optimal layout.

The toilet on the 1st above-ground floor is locked and is located in the west wing by the library. The key is available at the reception. The stall (door width 80; stall width 162 cm, depth 192 cm) is separate. The unmarked single-panel toilet door opens mechanically towards the outside. The toilet is anchored on the front wall opposite the door and does not allow entry from the side. The sink is located diagonally on the side wall. The toilet is equipped with one fixed handle and one pull-down handle.

The toilet on the 6th above-ground floor is freely accessible. The separate stall (door width 80; stall width 144 cm, depth 198 cm) has a labelled single-panel door that opens mechanically towards the outside. However, the sink extends into the door space and narrows the width of the passageway (width 66 cm). Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is from the left. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width min. 89 cm). The toilets are equipped with two pull-down handles.

Parking

There is a spacious parking area in front of the building without reserved parking spaces.

Public transport

The nearest bus stop is Bělocerkevská (only bus 175; other lines stop farther from the building). Access is far from ideal (curbs, less of the journey on pavement). For more information, see www.dpp.cz.
