The complex is made up of three buildings – the Biomedical Centre with an adjacent building for raising laboratory animals and a seven-storey school building with five theoretical faculty departments (pharmacology and toxicology, pathological physiology, physiology, biology, and biophysics).
The stop “Lékařská fakulta” (lines 1, 33, 34, 40, 25) is located approximately 450 metres from the building. For more information, see www.pmdp.cz.
There are six reserved parking spaces available in the adjacent parking area. There is a pavement with a slight slope (gradient max. 7.5%, length approx. 7 m) leading to the parking area.
The surface of the access pavement from alej Svobody Street, where the public transportation stop is located, is made of concrete paving with a slight slope (max. 6%).
The Biomedical Centre and the school building have their own entrances, and the laboratory animal building is connected to the Biomedical Centre building via a linking passage at the level of the 2nd above-ground floor.
The entrance to the school building is at the level of the 1st above-ground floor, which with regard to the surrounding terrain is located below the level of the access pavement (12 steps down). The elevation is compensated for by a four-level ramp (gradient 7%, width 138 cm, length 2x 760, 2x 900 cm) with suitable landings and a double-sided handrail (height 90 cm). The manoeuvring space under the ramp is sufficient.
The double entrance door (width 2x 85 cm) opens mechanically outwards. From the spacious vestibule (width 365 cm, depth 258 cm) with the reception area (desk height 92 cm), another identical door leads to the central entrance hall, opening towards the vestibule.
A footbridge with a slight slope (gradient max. 4%, width 290 cm, length approx. 13.5 m) leads from the pavement to the entrance to the Biomedical Centre at the level of the 2nd above-ground floor. The double entrance door automatically opens to the sides. The width of the passage is sufficient. In the entrance hall, there is a reception area (desk height 91 cm). On the right, there is the entrance to the linking passage, which leads to the adjacent building with laboratory animals.
The laboratory animal building is connected to the school building only at the level of the stair landing (mezzanine) with the adjoining staircases.
Both main buildings have a logical and transparent layout. All floors are connected by a pair of lifts with identical parameters. The manoeuvring space in the interior is sufficient, and the doors of classrooms, offices, and other passages have a minimum width of 80 cm.
In the school building on the level of the 1st above-ground floor (entrance), there is a snack bar and a large lecture room with a tiered layout. The reserved seats are in the last upper row at the entrance to the lecture room. Other spaces are located at the level of the specific floors.
All lifts in the complex have the same parameters. The lift pairs in the buildings have a mirrored layout.
The lifts (automatically opening door width 90 cm, cabin width 120 cm, depth 210 cm) are located on the sides of the central staircases. The manoeuvring space in front of the lifts is sufficient. The cabins without pull-down seats are equipped with a handle (height 90 cm) on the front wall and a mirror on the side wall. The controls at the entrances have a maximum height of 96 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cabin is 118 cm.
There are a total of six modified toilets in the school building, five of which are always located on each floor in the corridor that leads from the lifts to the offices and classrooms. The accessible toilets (door width 90 cm, stall width 180 cm, depth 228 cm) are separate. The single-panel toilet door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is always on the left. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 98 cm). The toilets are equipped with two pull-down handles.
The sixth modified toilet is located on the 1st above-ground floor opposite the snack bar. The accessible toilet (door width 90, stall width 223 cm, depth 179 cm) is also separate. The single-panel toilet door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. The stall has a rotated layout of 90° (the toilet is anchored on the right side wall). Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 97 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down and one fixed handle.
There is a modified toilet in the Biomedical Centre building in the sanitary facilities on the 1st above-ground floor.
The accessible toilet (door width 90 cm, stall width 179 cm, depth 210 cm) is separate. The single-panel toilet door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the left. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 114 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down and one fixed handle.
