Overview of accessibility

Description of the building

The historical building houses the biology section of the Faculty of Science, Charles University and the Hrdlicka Museum of Man.

Accessibility and transportationPublic transportation

The bus stop Větrov (bus 148) is located approximately 200 m from the building. For more information, see www.dpp.cz.

Parking

Reserved parking spaces for people with reduced mobility are not available.

Entrance

The pavement in front of the building has an uneven surface of mosaic tiles and a slight longitudinal slope (up to 5%).

The main entrance to the building is not barrier-free (4 + 10 steps up). The main entrance door of the building is double-panel (width 2x 110 cm) and opens mechanically towards the inside. The doorbell (height 146 cm) is located to the right of the door above the staircase. In the entrance hall, there is a reception area (counter height 110 cm), from which another staircase leads to the building (10 steps up).

An unmarked side entrance, which has barrier-free access, is available to the right of the main entrance. A double door (main panel width 64 cm, secondary panel width 65 cm) without a doorbell opens mechanically towards the inside. The entrance is equipped with a chip reader on the inside and outside (height 130 cm). Behind the entrance, there is an inappropriately designed ramp (gradient 16%, width 170 cm, length 630 cm) with a double-sided handrail (height 112 cm). The manoeuvring area above the ramp is sufficient. Access to the 1st underground floor to the central lift is via a sloping platform (load capacity 225 kg; traffic area width 77 cm, depth 89 cm). The slope of the platform copies the ramp.

Interior

In the complicated building layout, several elevated barrier sections adjoin the central corridors with the central lift – Department of Parasitology (5 steps down) on the 1st underground floor, rooms 206 to 230 of the Department of Zoology (4 steps down) on the 3rd above-ground floor, and an attic space (4 steps up) on the 4th above-ground floor.

The other spaces are accessible from the lift without any increase in elevation or via one step up or a threshold (max. height 7 cm).

Access to adjacent wings, classrooms, and offices can be accessed through either single doors (width 80 cm to 90 cm) or double doors (width 2x 60 cm), which are often fitted with a higher threshold (height 2 cm to 4 cm). The manoeuvring area in the interior of the entire building is sufficient.

Lift

The lift (automatic door width 80 cm; cage width 120 cm, depth 100 cm) connects the 2nd underground floor to the 4th above-ground floor. The manoeuvring area in front of the lift is sufficient. The cage is equipped with a handrail (height 90 cm), a mirror on the front wall, and a pull-down seat. The controls at the entrance points are a maximum height of 103 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cage is 119 cm.

Sanitary facilities

There is a separate accessible toilet (door width 80 cm; stall width 164 cm, depth 178 cm) located on the 4th above-ground floor. The single door of the toilet is labelled and opens mechanically towards the outside. Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 99 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle.
