Accommodation and catering services

Accommodation and catering services are provided by the Charles University Dormitories and Refectories. Accommodation can be reserved through the online reservation portal: https://rehos.cuni.cz/crpp/.

Accommodation

For students with disabilities, rooms with barrier-free access and adapted bathroom facilities are available in the following dormitories: Kajetánka II (8 beds), Jednota (2 beds), Block 10 at the Hostivař dormitory (4 beds), Hvězda dormitory (1 bed), Bolevecká dormitory in Plzeň (2 beds). These are usually two-room units with a shared bathroom, designed so that a wheelchair user can stay in one room and their assistant in the other.

Information

Students with special needs, who have justified accommodation requirements and supporting medical documentation, can apply for housing in Charles University dormitories through the Rehos system.

Valid reasons for requests may include, for example: mobility impairments, visual or hearing impairments, autism spectrum disorders, specific psychological or somatic conditions.

Information

Prospective and current students with special needs may also contact the Centrum Carolina team for assistance when applying for a single room, depending on the nature of their disability.

Jednota Dormitory

Praha 1, Opletalova 38

Located in the city center, near the barrier-free metro station C – Hlavní nádraží. Metro line A (Muzeum station, equipped with a new elevator) is also nearby, while the line B (Náměstí Republiky station) is unfortunately only accessible by stairs. The location provides easy walking or wheelchair access to several university buildings, such as the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Law, or Faculty of Education. An advantage is the accessible canteen located in the same building.

A disadvantage is the size of the dormitory elevator – it is an older type, and wider wheelchairs may not fit inside. Parking options in the area are also limited.

Kajetánka II.

Praha 6, Radimova 12

The rooms at Kajetánka II are particularly suitable for students who have their own car, as there are designated parking spaces directly in front of the building entrance. The city center, where most Charles University buildings are located, is less accessible without a car. To reach it, one must take a bus to metro line A, which has only a few barrier-free stations, or take a tram. The access road to the dormitory is steep, and a wheelchair user can’t be able to manage it independently. A canteen is located within the dormitory building, but it is not barrier-free.

Hostivař Dormitory

Praha 10, Weilova 1144/2

The rooms in Hostivař were built during the renovation of Block 10 in 2004. They are suitable both for wheelchair users with access to a private car, as well as for those relying on public transport.

The city center can be reached by low-floor buses connecting to metro line C at Strašnická or Chodov stations (both equipped with platforms and elevators), or by low-floor trams.

A canteen is located within the dormitory complex.

Hvězda Dormitory

Zvoníčkova 1926/3, Praha 6

The Hvězda dormitory consists of three residential blocks, each with its own separate entrance.

Within the complex, there is one wheelchair-accessible room available, located in Block 3.

Hostivař Campus Dormitory (ÚJOP)

Weilova 1144/2, Praha 10

The dormitory of the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies at Charles University is part of the Hostivař accommodation complex. Two wheelchair-accessible rooms are located in Building 3.

There is currently also the option to use the 17. listopadu Dormitory in Troja for students with special needs. However, this building does not fully meet accessibility standards and is not suitable for students requiring adapted bathroom facilities.

Charles University Dormitories and Refectories will continue to adapt additional rooms for students with physical disabilities, depending on financial conditions and student demand. Fully accessible accommodation is also planned in buildings undergoing renovation (e.g. Hvězda Dormitory).

Students who are officially recognized as persons with long-term or severe disabilities (according to Decree No. 182/1991 Coll.), holders of ZTP or ZTP/P disability cards, as well as their assistants (if they are also Charles University students and living in the same dormitory), are given priority in the accommodation process (see Accommodation Policy of Charles University Dormitories, Article 3).

If a student’s assistant is not a CU student, their accommodation request is assessed on an individual basis.

Catering

The canteen in Jinonice is fully accessible, including barrier-free toilets nearby (on the ground floor). The following canteens are also accessible: 17. listopadu (Troja), Albertov, Sport (Vokovice), Faculty of Law, Jednota.

However, these locations may not have fully accessible restroom facilities, and meal selection terminals may be placed too high for wheelchair users.
