Overview of accessibility

Description of the building

The complex of three buildings (A, B, C) is the seat of the theoretical institutes of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University. Currently, only buildings B and C, which are interconnected, are used for instruction.

Entrance

Access from the nearest public transportation stop is complicated. The pavement that runs along Bucharova Street is on a significantly steep slope (up to 15%). The route, in places with rougher irregularities, continues through a car service parking lot along a fence and a set of buildings to a short connecting road turning to the right into the faculty area. Passenger car transportation is more convenient for accessing the building.

The main entrance is located in building B at the level of the 1st above-ground floor. In front of the entrance, there is a short staircase (4 steps up) with a side ramp (gradient 5%-6%, width 210 cm, length 400 cm) without a handrail or an anti-skid surface. The manoeuvring space on the upper platform is sufficient. The double door of the main entrance automatically open to the sides. The width of the passage is sufficient. There is a threshold in the door (height 4 cm). A doorbell is not available. From the spacious vestibule with a reception area, a double door leads to the central corridor of the pavilion (main panel width 88 cm, side panel width 78 cm).

The side entrance (door width 2x 90 cm) leads to the adjacent building C. In front of the entrance, there is a double ramp (1st section: gradient 8%, width 230 cm, length 850 cm; 2nd section: gradient 6.5%-8%, width 230 cm, length 940 cm) with handrails on both sides (height 90 cm). The entrance leads to the 2nd above-ground floor level.

Interior

BUILDING B

The central corridor on the ground floor of building B has different levels with a system of stairs and five adjoining side ramps (gradient 7%-8.5%, width 132 cm, ramp length max. 720 cm). Access to classrooms, other areas, and two lifts is always from the common landings of the ramps and staircases.

Lecture room no. 101 with a tiered layout is located immediately behind the main entrance. A ramp (gradient 8%, width 124 cm, length 452 cm) leads from the door between the department and the audience seats to a reserved space with insufficient dimensions (depth 89 cm).

The other classrooms are tiered, but two of them, no. 109 and no. 110, have limited space behind the entrance. There is a significantly narrowed aisle between the door and a row of seats anchored to the floor (min. width 80 cm).

The manoeuvring space in the remaining classrooms on the 1st and 2nd above-ground floors is sufficient. The doors and other passages have a minimum width of 80 cm. All floors of the building, including the 3rd and 4th above-ground floors with the administration and research offices, are connected by two lifts.

The building includes a total of three modified toilet stalls (see Sanitary facilities).

Building B is connected to building C by a corridor at the level of the 2nd above-ground floor.

BUILDING C

All of the floors of building C are connected by a lift. The manoeuvring space in the interior is sufficient. The doors and other passages have a minimum width of 80 cm. The locked entrance to the Institute of Anatomy on the 1st above-ground floor is equipped with a high-positioned doorbell (height 165 cm).

The building has two modified toilets (see Sanitary facilities).

Lift

BUILDING B

The lift closer to the main entrance (automatically opening door width 90 cm, cabin width 110 cm, depth 140 cm) connects the 1st to 3rd above-ground floors. The manoeuvring space in front of the lift is sufficient. The cabin is equipped with a mirror (lower edge height 100 cm) and a handle (height 93 cm) on the side wall. The controls at the entrances have a maximum height of 108 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cabin is 115 cm.

The second lift with the same parameters connects the 1st to 4th above-ground floors.

BUILDING C

A lift (automatically opening door width 90 cm, cabin width 110 cm, depth 209 cm) connects the 1st underground floor to the 4th above-ground floor. The manoeuvring space in front of the lift is sufficient. The cabin is equipped with a mirror (lower edge height 91 cm) on the front wall and a handle (height 91 cm) on the side wall. The controls at the entrances have a maximum height of 109 cm. The maximum height of the controls inside the cabin is 112 cm.

Sanitary facilities

BUILDING B

An accessible toilet (door width 80 cm, stall width 271 cm, depth 160 cm) is located on the 1st above-ground floor. It is part of the women’s toilet facility with a spacious hallway (width 120 cm, depth 370 cm). The single-panel stall door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet located on the left side wall is on the left when looking from the entrance into the stall. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 90 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle with insufficient length (length 56 cm).

Another accessible toilet (door width 80 cm, stall width 212 cm, depth 160 cm) is also located on the 1st above-ground floor. It is part of the men’s toilet facility with a spacious hallway (width 120 cm, depth 370 cm). The single-panel stall door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet, located on the right side wall, is on the right when looking from the entrance into the stall. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 90 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle with insufficient length (length 56 cm).

A third accessible toilet (door width 80 cm, stall width 193 cm, depth 160 cm) is located on the 2nd above-ground floor. It is part of the women’s toilet facility with a spacious hallway (width 120 cm, depth 370 cm). The single-panel stall door is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet, located on the left side wall, is on the left when looking from the entrance into the stall. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 95 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle with insufficient length (length 56 cm).

BUILDING C

A separate accessible toilet (door width 80 cm, stall width 179 cm, depth 212 cm) is located on the 1st above-ground floor. The single-panel door to the toilet is marked and opens mechanically outwards. Access to the toilet when looking from the entrance into the stall is on the right. The space for a wheelchair next to the toilet is sufficient (width 112 cm). The toilet is equipped with one pull-down handle and one fixed handle.

A separate, partially accessible toilet on the 2nd above-ground floor has similar parameters, but a hand dryer attached to the side wall behind the door interferes with the entrance space. This creates a narrowed passageway (width 76 cm).

Parking

There are two reserved parking spaces in the parking area in front of the building. Both have a significant transverse gradient (up to 8%).
